The challenge

To restore the property - a grade II listed building dating from 1595 - which had been a registered nursing home for 35 years.

Many of the internal rooms had been sub-divided, the original features concealed and in some instances damaged.

The solution

Cuckfield Group obtained planning permission to restore the building to a private house. The property and grounds were completely renovated. Craftsmen including stonemasons, cabinet makers and French polishers were employed.

Cuckfield Group worked closely with the architectural consultant for West Sussex County Council, the leather conservation society, TRADA, the Forestry Commission and the de Morgan museum in carrying out the works.

The added value

The building was restored to its original use and condition.

Forty acres of parkland and five acres of formal, listed gardens were preserved.

The added value following the renovation was substantial after all costs.
